Jamsetji Tata is commonly referred to as the legendary "Father of Indian Industry".

Jamsetji Tata was born into a Zoroastrian Parsi family to Nusserwanji and Jeevanbai Tata on 3 March 1839 in Navsari, a city located in southern Gujarat.

He founded Tata Group in 1868 and started with a textile mill in Nagpur.  Over the years, he diversified the business into steel, power,  hospitality, and other industries.

Some of his notable contributions include the founding of the Indian  Institute of Science in Bangalore, the Tata Institute of Fundamental  Research in Mumbai, and the Tata Memorial Hospital for cancer treatment  in Mumbai.

Jamsetji Tata was also known for his commitment to employee welfare and  social responsibility. He provided his workers with better living  conditions, healthcare, and education facilities.

He passed away on May 19, 1904, in Bad Nauheim, Germany, at the age of  65. His legacy, however, continues to inspire generations of  entrepreneurs and business leaders in India and beyond.

Dorabji Tata and Ratanji Tata, the sons of Jamsetji Tata and his wife  Hirabai, took over the reins of the Tata Group as its chairman after  their father.
