Aditya Chola I, the successor of Vijayalaya, reigned over the Chola dynasty from 870/71 CE until approximately 907 CE, solidifying their power across the region.

In a decisive battle, Aditya Chola I defeated the Pallavas and their leader Aparajita, ending their rule and consolidating control over their lands, including the capital city of Kanchi.

During his rule, Aditya I fostered friendly relations with neighboring kingdoms, such as the Cheras, ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The banks of the Kaveri river were graced with the construction of 108 Shiva temples, a testament to Aditya I's devotion and piety.

One of the temples erected by Aditya I, the Kodandarameshvaraa, also known as Adityesvara in inscriptions, remains a magnificent example of Chola architecture and craftsmanship.

With the conquest of the Kongu country from Pandya king Viranarayana, Aditya I expanded his empire's reach and secured its place as a dominant force in the region.

After a long and illustrious rule, Aditya I passed away in 907 CE in Tondaimanarrur. In honor of his father, Parantaka I built a grand Shiva temple on the site where his ashes were interred.
